The 2026 Nissan LEAF® is a five-passenger electric vehicle available in S+, SV+, and PLAT+ grades. Its electric powertrain combines a 160-kW AC synchronous motor with a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery, producing 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. Every grade includes two charging-port standards, Plug & Charge capability, and 1,500-watt vehicle-to-load functionality. The model also integrates connected infotainment, digital instrumentation, driver-assistance technologies, and a flexible cargo area within its compact exterior dimensions.

Electric Powertrain, Charging, and Driving Systems

The 2026 Nissan LEAF® uses a fully electric propulsion system designed to deliver consistent output and support multiple charging options. A 160-kW AC synchronous electric motor comes standard across the model range. This motor generates 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque in the S+, SV+, and PLAT+ grades. A standard 75-kWh lithium-ion battery supplies energy to the propulsion system. The vehicle also uses a 7.2-kW onboard charger to manage compatible AC charging connections.

Charging Ports and Energy Functions

Every 2026 Nissan LEAF® includes a J1772 charging port and a North American Charging Standard port. This two-port configuration provides separate connections for compatible charging equipment. A portable charge cable supports both 120-volt and 240-volt electric vehicle supply equipment. The model also supports Plug & Charge capability. Estimated quick charging from 10 percent to 80 percent takes 35 minutes, although charging time can vary with charging habits, weather, temperature, and battery age.

Vehicle-to-load capability allows the 2026 Nissan LEAF® to supply up to 1,500 watts of electrical power. All grades can provide this function through the exterior J1772 port when connected to the required adapter. The PLAT+ adds a dedicated vehicle-to-load outlet in the cargo area. An optional 120-volt power outlet is also listed for the PLAT+ grade.

A standard charging timer allows the driver to select a preferred charging time. The SV+ and PLAT+ include a hybrid heater system with a heat pump, and both grades offer an optional battery heater. The estimated charging time on a 240-volt connection remains to be determined. Charging duration can change based on charging habits, weather conditions, temperature, and battery age.

Steering, Braking, and Regenerative Controls

Vehicle-speed-sensitive electric power steering comes standard on every 2026 Nissan LEAF® grade. The steering system accompanies a 35.4-foot curb-to-curb turning diameter. A TailorFit™ steering wheel provides manual tilt and telescopic adjustments throughout the lineup. Nissan places cruise-control, audio, and Bluetooth® switches directly on the steering wheel for convenient access. The PLAT+ adds steering-wheel heating to its comfort equipment.

The SV+ and PLAT+ include regenerative braking paddles positioned behind the steering wheel. These paddles provide direct access to the vehicle’s regenerative braking controls. Every grade also includes an anti-lock braking system, Vehicle Dynamic Control, and a traction control system. These systems operate alongside the electric steering and propulsion equipment as part of the vehicle’s driving-control package. A standard tire pressure monitoring system supplies additional information about tire status.
